JSV papercraft Warhound Build

This will chronicle my build of a papercraft WH40K Warhound Titan. This will use the pattern released by JSV (jsvironfurnace@yahoo.com). Rather than bottom up, starting with the feet; I've chosen to build top down, starting with the head. After cutting out the first piece, I realize the pattern does not include overlap tabs common in papercraft models (quickly I manually added them on all subsequent pieces). I'm using 65 lb Cardstock.

Day 1: Head completed.

(Each square on the craft board is 1 cm.)

Day 2: Main hull completed.

Day 3: Right rear hull section done.

Day 4: Left rear hull section.

Day 5, sheet 5. Shoulder Armor Weapon Mounts.

Day 5 part 2. Hull sections finished and assembled. Next, legs and feet.

Day 6. Vulcan Megablaster. Warhound's wargear is 2 weapons from 8 options, so going to magnetize them.

Day 7. Plasma Blastgun. Will do the rest of the weapons after I finish the Warhound.

Day 8. Waist and Hips.

Day 9. 1 foot completed.

Day 10. 2nd foot done.

Day 11. Left leg done.

Day 12. Finished. Painting and detailing will be subject of another post. Getting "Ghost Hound" vibes. :)

The Last Jedi

Trooped The Last Jedi Premier at Lake Mary, Florida, for the Rebel Legion with my wife and her 16 yo grandson, Charles "Gavin". We did the first 45 minutes in our Bith Cantina Band costumes (forgot the battery packs for the in-mask fans), then we switched to our Rebel Fleet Trooper costumes. Gavin was in his custom Mando Mercenary (he's a Galactic Academy member, so it just has to be Star Wars style in appearance, not screen accurate like Patti & mine has to be). Patti & I got lots of "great costume" & "awesome" comments on both our costume sets, and of course lots of pics were taken. We did the costume appearance from 6:30 to 9:30, then got un-costumed to actually see The Last Jedi (perk of trooping, we got free tickets). Overall, I felt The Last Jedi was better than The Force Awakens. Original storyline and plot, compared to the rehashed A New Hope plot of The Force Awakens. We still don't know where Snoke came from, but we don't have to worry about him anymore. The fight scene with the First Order Royal Guards was awesome. Luke facing down the entire First Order attack force by himself is truly legendary ("Fire EVERY weapon we have at him!!!!"). The humorous moments did not distract from the story, the drama was not too thick. I was disappointed that the new "Han Solo" scoundrel did not redeem himself in the end. He had a nice character set up, but in the end was just another mercenary out for just himself. Still looked very much like Star Wars in the original trilogy style, we had some new ships as would be expected from a period set 30 years in the timeline after the originals, but still, 30 year old style X-Wings, TIE Fighters and A-Wings? That's like seeing WWI style Biplanes in a late-mid period WWII movie.

Still Depressed

Another 2 years gone by. I really should pay more attention these things. Well, since the last time, I lost my job, been unemployed for over 2 years now, and feeling rather depressed. Doing the Uber/Lyft driving, but not as much as I should. Living in a 26 year old worn down RV, so not homeless. Car got repossessed (couldn't keep up with the payments). Good thing that happened? Got invited to appear at Disney Spring's premier of Rogue One in my Rebel Endor Trooper costume. Best thing that happened? Got married to my girlfriend, Patti. The VA just doubled the dose of my anti-depressant, so maybe things might start turning around with luck and more work on my part.

Veterans Day thoughts.

Veterans Day (yes, I am one - Army) inspired me to do some Googling, and I found out some very interesting things. In the US, we have 5 Armed Services (Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Air Force; the "Military") and 7 Uniformed Services (the 5 Military plus 2 non-military services, that I'm sure 99.9% of Americans can't name without Google [me included]). The US Merchant Marines is sometimes included as a "sixth" service when honoring Veterans, although it is neither a Armed Service or a Uniformed Service, but none-the-less deserves recognition and honor just as much as the 5 Armed Services.

Of the 6 services, the Merchant Marines is historically the oldest, first recorded action was June 12, 1775 - 2 day before the Continental Army was formed on June 14, 1775, but is the second newest service officially formed by the US (March 15, 1938). In order of founding:
Merchant Marines - 12 Jun 1775 - 15 Mar 1938
Continental Army - 14 Jun 1775 - 3 Jun 1784
Continental Navy - 13 Oct 1775 - 27 Mar 1794
Continental Marines - 10 Nov 1775 - 11 Jul 1798
US Revenue Cutter Service (Coast Guard) - 4 Aug 1790 - 28 Jan 1915
US Army - 3 Jun 1784
US Navy - 27 Mar 1794
US Marines - 11 Jul 1798
US Coast Guard - 28 Jan 1915
Signal Corps Aeronautical Division (Air Force) - 1 Aug 1907 - 24 May 1918
US Army Air Service (later Army Air Corps, later Army Air Force) - 24 May 1918 - 18 Sep 1947
US Merchant Marines Service - 15 Mar 1938
US Air Force - 18 Sep 1947

Oh, and the 2 non-military Uniformed Services? The United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Officer Corps.

And NASA? Awesome job, but still not a service.

Procrastination is my middle name

Been over 2 years since my last post - yes, I procrastinate a lot, and it's no wonder some projects I never finish at all. Well what happened in the last two years? Well, got me a girlfriend (yea!), moved twice (ugh), got caught up in a new miniature game (Star Wars X-Wing), and of course got two years older (grrr). Still at the same job, hitting the 27 month mark. Still collecting LEGOs (Star Wars in particular), but since the last move (barely a month ago) my collection is sitting in a storage unit due to lack of space in the newer home - did I mention that from two years ago, I went from living by myself with 2 cats in a 2 bedroom apartment to living with my girlfriend, her nephew, his girlfriend, her mother and my girlfriend's father plus a dog and 3 cats? No? Well, no wonder I seem a bit stressed and out of sorts. It's a long story, and most of it isn't my business to relate, so suffice to say, I live in a (almost too) full house.

So, did I complete any projects? Well, I think I completed a few more Star Wars costumes. I think I mentioned once that I got involved with the 501st Legion and the Rebel Legion Star Wars Costuming groups. I now have an Imperial Crewman, an AT-ST Driver, an AT-AT Commander (aka General Veers in armor), an Imperial Officer, an AT-AT Driver, a Rebel Fleet Trooper, a Rebel Endor Commando and a Bith Musician costume (all approved), plus a Republic Clone Wars Officer (aka Admiral Wullf Yularen from the Clone Wars cartoon) costume that I need to actually finish some day (need to make boot-top flaps). Plus I have a Cylon Centurian costume (ok, so that's not actually Star Wars, but Battlestar Galactica was inspired by Star Wars). Oh, and a Visitor Officer from the 80's mini-series V. And yeah, got my girlfriend into this too, she's got an Imperial Crewman, a Rebel Fleet Trooper and a Bith Musican (you can't tell well from the picture, but her Bith is a slightly different shade than mine, and since the photo I made a more screen accurate instrument for her), and she's working on an Royal Guard costume.

So, ok, I might have been a bit busy the past two years...

Easter (2012) is over, Passover is on it's third night, and I've finished my first week at my new job. In two more weeks, I'll get my first check. In the meanwhile, it's the proverbial "ramen every night kind of budget" - although my generous mother did pack a care-box for me of all the left-overs from Easter brunch we had earlier.

Being unemployed for two months, and not qualifying for Unemployment Assistance (don't ask, it's one of the growing list of reasons I'm really glad I'm not working for a certain past employer anymore), I've definitely learned the art of making left-overs last more than a couple nights and shopping for REALLY cheap food - like 10 T.V. dinners for $10 kinds of deals. Of course, when I get my first check, you can bet that I'm really considering a visit to a steak house (Hmm, Meat!).

Now of course, I got myself thinking about food. I hope I remembered to put the left-over deviled eggs in the fridge when I got home...
